The Future Food Institute, together with the Municipality of Pollica’s “Angelo Vassallo” Mediterranean Diet Study Center, launches the third edition of “Trame Mediterranee, from the Land to the Table”: taste and knowledge take center stage in the “gastronomic theater” of the Castello dei Principi Capano, in the heart of the village of Pollica – UNESCO Emblematic Community of the Mediterranean Diet.
Pollica (SA), August 11, 2023 – Last night marked the opening of the third edition of “Trame Mediterranee, from the Land to the Table”, an event bringing together taste and knowledge in the “gastronomic theater” of the Castello dei Principi Capano, in the heart of Pollica – UNESCO Emblematic Community of the Mediterranean Diet.
On the occasion of the Night of San Lorenzo, at Paideia Campus in Pollica, the Future Food Institute, in collaboration with the “Angelo Vassallo” Mediterranean Diet Study Center of the Municipality of Pollica, organized a dinner inspired by the Milky Way: the first in a series of six educational evenings.
Three hours of stories, images, music and personal accounts designed to convey the values of Mediterranean culture and celebrate local heroes, accompanied by a five-course experiential dinner interspersed with discussions and contributions from leading figures in the Mediterranean Diet supply chains.
The dinners also help support the Trame Mediterranee educational program, whose mission throughout the year is to spread the values of this heritage in Italian schools.
Thanks to the guidance of Maria Sarnataro, Silvia Chirico of Tenuta Chirico, Edmondo Soffritti of La Petrosa, and products from Caseificio La Torretta by Giovanni Cifrodelli, participants in the Milky Way gastronomic learning experience had the opportunity to taste five courses based on dairy products — mozzarella, robiola, cacioricotta, an exceptionally delicious manteca, ricotta and gelato — while exploring the relationship between tradition, different sustainable farming practices and innovation.
The gastronomic theater hosts a program of six dinner-events dedicated to the icons of the Lands of the Mediterranean Diet.
Through the stories of ambassadors of the area’s most iconic products — producers, gastronomes, fishermen and guardian farmers — together with the insights of experts and researchers, each event becomes a journey into a form of gastronomy rooted in sustainability, seasonality and circularity.
In these lands, this approach comes together with a gastronomy of health, based on balance and biodiversity, and a gastronomy of inclusion, shaped by multiculturalism and hospitality. A gastronomy that belongs to everyone, because “we are all Mediterranean.”
Each evening is preceded by a guided tour of the Castello dei Principi Capano and the exhibition EU.CARESTIA – No Food Tomorrow.
The Future Food Institute brought to Pollica the contemplative and provocative installation by the artistic collective {[(etica)estetica]anestetica}, produced by TRAMA, using art to remind us of the importance of protecting biodiversity and the planet’s essential resources, as well as the urgency of taking action because “there is no more time.”
The Future Food Institute, together with the Municipality of Pollica, is deeply committed to soil health, biodiversity protection and safeguarding the planet’s essential resources.
The tragedy that struck Emilia-Romagna inspired us to join forces to rebuild the vegetable gardens and school gardens of the municipalities within the Bassa Romagna Union that were most severely affected by the flooding.
The works on display, transformed into N.F.T.s as part of EuCarestia – No Food Tomorrow, can be purchased to support the initiative at nofoodtomorrow.org.
