Integral ecological regeneration begins with protecting the “soil” ecosystem.
One of the greatest lessons we have learned from these difficult years — marked by challenges to solve, races against time and new models to rebuild — is the realization that no problem, just like no change, ever comes alone.
Within the web of life, where everything is so deeply interconnected, the path toward radical change also requires us to bridge the gaps between different dimensions, generations and actors. At the same time, it demands the ability to analyse context at different levels of depth, from the most visible to the most subtle and hidden.
In this sense, the soil we walk on, exploit and take for granted every day is one of the clearest examples of how much damage we can cause when we limit our perspective to the most superficial dimension, forgetting to connect it with what is intangible or hidden.
We can clearly see the deep scars left by desertification across every latitude and longitude, from Africa to Oceania, including our own country, where almost 30% of the territory is affected. And yet we still too often forget that this phenomenon is one of the most severe forms of soil deterioration and degradation. It does not necessarily result in visible desertification, but rather in a more invisible fragility of the entire ecosystem, affecting its hydrological, morphological, plant and animal systems.
