Pollica Digital Week

From March 25 to 31, the Municipality of Pollica and the Future Food Institute, as part of the “Pollica 2050” project, organised the Pollica Digital Week at the Castello dei Principi Capano, dedicated to education and digital innovation as tools for the cultural, social and economic regeneration of the territory.

Seven days of courses, seminars and workshops to discover how technology and digital tools can become allies in repopulating and revitalising small villages and inland areas.

The initiative, held within the framework of ALL Digital Week, Europe’s largest fully digital event, aims to promote the digital transition, an essential tool for supporting the sustainable development of territories.

Seminars and working sessions were held for local administrators, together with moments of co-creation focused on developing a visual narrative language for the territory, involving young people and the entire community.

The community took centre stage in “Hack the Village” – the first community hackathon designed to find solutions to local challenges, organised in collaboration with Invitalia!

The winning idea was presented by a group of local children: “hide-and-seek in the village” and the “treasure park”, activities designed to introduce their peers to wild herbs and their use in cooking.

Among the other ideas developed during the 24 hours of work:

a community oven, conceived as a gathering place to encourage intergenerational integration and revive local traditions;
CilenToBe, a hub for discovering the territory and experiencing the unspoilt nature of Cilento;
innovative ideas for connecting local stakeholders and involving them in training programs such as agrifood processing workshops, educational activities to rediscover local traditions, and professional training programs for tourism operators.

On Saturday the 26th, the first edition of the Pollica Photo Marathon took place!

A challenge aimed at both professional and amateur photographers, with the goal of telling the story of Cilento and Pollica through images and fresh perspectives, unexpected views and visual narratives.

The photographs were evaluated by a high-level technical jury:

Alessandro Imbriaco, winner of the 2010 World Press Photo Award for Contemporary Issues
Francesco Nicodemo, spokesperson for Fondazione Italia Digitale
Giuseppe Ariano, founder of Pa Social
Pietro Contaldo, president of IgersItalia
Sara Roversi, president of Future Food Institute
Stefano Pisani, Mayor of the Municipality of Pollica
Sonia Massari, director of the Future Food Academy

Mario Zammarrelli was the photographer who best captured the village through the 10 proposed themes and will have the opportunity to participate in the Food and Climate Shapers Boot Camp dedicated to ocean sustainability, organised by Future Food Institute and FAO and scheduled for September in Þingeyri, Iceland.

It is thanks to the many valuable partners and protagonists of the digital transition that this week was able to spark curiosity and inspire local young people about what technology can do for us!

Institutional partners: Fondazione Italia Digitale, the first organisation in Italy entirely dedicated to digital policy and culture; PA Social, an Italian association unique in the European landscape and dedicated to digital communication and information; Europe Direct Salerno, a local centre promoting European Union calls, initiatives and projects; IgersItalia, Italy’s largest community dedicated to territorial promotion and visual communication.

Media Partners of the initiative: Adnkronos, one of Italy’s leading news agencies in promoting themes and organisations related to innovation and the green transition, supporting best practices and encouraging more sustainable growth; Rinnovabili.it, an online newspaper dedicated to environmental sustainability.
