laFeltrinelli in Acciaroli, the new bookstore inaugurated in early May, offers residents and seasonal visitors a cultural gathering place and an editorial selection that reflects the local area while opening itself to the Mediterranean. It now presents (R)Estate con laFeltrinelli, a summer event series running from June 24 to August 25, every Thursday at aperitivo time on the terrace above the bookstore, featuring writers and musicians including Simonetta Agnello Hornby, Lorenzo Marone, Roberto Colella and Marco Marsullo.
The program unfolds across eight events and has been developed with the collaboration of a student editorial team from the municipalities of Pollica, Agropoli, Casalvelino and Vallo della Lucania: a group of around twenty secondary school students who contributed to organizing the program and who, during each event, will take on the unusual role of moderators, interviewing and engaging in conversation with the featured authors.
The summer season will ideally open with the highly anticipated meeting with Roberto Saviano, who on Friday, June 24 at 7:30 p.m. will present and sign copies of Solo è il coraggio (Bompiani), dedicated to the figure of Giovanni Falcone. The novel recounts a defining chapter in our history, shedding light on the life of a man who, at the height of his career, was in fact also at the peak of his isolation. It becomes a powerful tribute to his solitude and courage.
The first Thursday dedicated to literature, on June 30 at 7:30 p.m., will feature writer Federica de Paolis, winner of the 2020 Città di Como International Literature Prize for best thriller, presenting Le distrazioni (HarperCollins): a novel centred on the fragile stability of a young couple in difficulty, hanging by a thread that could break at any moment.
The program continues on July 7 with Simonetta Agnello Hornby, whose commitment to issues affecting young people, victims of domestic violence and the oppressed has shaped both her legal career and her writing. Her latest book, La cuntintizza (Mondadori), is a dialogue between two generations — that of the author and that of her granddaughter — and explores the small rituals of everyday life that can create understanding and emotional closeness.
Who said that men over thirty are not afraid of remaining single? And that the biological clock exists only for women? Marco Marsullo, guest on Thursday, July 14, challenges these common assumptions starting from Tutte le volte che mi sono innamorato (Feltrinelli). A direct and satirical novel in which the author gives voice to a generation by telling stories of relationships from the male point of view: their dreams, desires, but also their shadows, challenges and fear of failure.
Then, on Thursday, July 21, Roberto Alajmo will present La strategia dell’opossum (Sellerio), the second adventure of Giovanni Di Dio, known as Giovà, the naive night watchman and reluctant investigator who stands somewhere between the Sicilian described by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, who longs only for sleep, and the innocent Giufà of popular tradition.
The July program concludes on Thursday, July 28 with Roberto Colella, frontman of the band La Maschera, who will introduce the latest album Sotto chi tene core live.
In August, the evocative setting of the laFeltrinelli terrace in Acciaroli will host Lorenzo Marone, with La tentazione di essere felici (Einaudi, Thursday, August 4), Sara Bilotti with Eden (HarperCollins, Thursday, August 18), and Matteo Saudino, philosophy and history teacher who became well known through his YouTube channel, with La filosofia non è una barba (Vallardi, Thursday, August 25).
Finally, starting in June, the bookstore will also host a rich calendar of events within the Pollica 2050 program curated by the Municipality of Pollica Acciaroli. Guests include Mauro Ruggero, Potito Ruggero with Federico Taddia, Andrea Ciucci, Costantino Esposito.
All events begin at 7:00 p.m. with an aperitivo on the terrace curated by Jazzy Bar.
